Adventure Delivered Right To Your Door

I don’t know many people who don’t enjoy getting packages in the mail. I certainly enjoy it, especially those that are full of goodies that have to do with my favorite things.   In the past few years, subscription boxes have grown in popularity. Companies offer a wide variety of boxes, most available on a monthly basis, that are geared toward your interests.  One such company is Cairn.   Catered toward the outdoor enthusiast, Cairn offers a monthly subscription box containing outdoor-related gear and products that are uniquely chosen based upon your personalized profile on their site.

They offer a few different subscription plans, and guarantee up to $50 in products in each box.  Subscriptions start at $22 per month.  I guarantee you I have spent more than that on different pieces of gear in any given month, so I decided to give it a try.  It was a Christmas gift to myself this year, and I recently received my first box.  I’ve been unable to get out and hike or handle the dogs since a major surgery a few weeks ago, so preparing for future outings and filling up my activity calendar has helped with the boredom I’ve experienced as of late.  Receiving my first box got me excited for future adventures.  I took it out back on a beautiful, breezy day and dove right in!

The Unboxing

My first Cairn subscription box.

I loved the text on the inside of the box as you opened it, as well as the cute wrapping paper.  The lovely card that sat on the top had an inspirational/outdoor-related quote and the reverse contained a list of the items contained in the box.  There was a second card that included discount codes for the companies represented within the box!  Super cool!  But would there be products inside that I felt I would actually use?

What’s Inside

The first item was a replacement zipper slider from FixnZip.  Countless outdoor products have these zipper sliders.  Hammocks, tents, backpacks, jackets, stuff sacks, the list is seemingly endless.  They inevitably come off and get lost sometimes.  Having a backup or two is a great idea.  I have products right now that need replacement zipper sliders.  I saw this item and exclaimed, “Oh my gosh, I so need this!”

The second item was a package of trail mix from Play Hard-Give Back.  5% of profits go to volunteer programs that fuel social change.  So you can snack and give back!

The third item was a 20L segmented stuff sack from Gobi Gear..  Now I have several stuff sacks.  I love them.  They are one of my favorite outdoor gear items.  I have not, however, come across a segmented stuff sack.  Where the heck have I been?!  There are divided segments for various items, which eliminates my having to dig around for something that may have fallen to the bottom.  I LOVE this.  I can’t wait to use it.

Item #4 is a fork/spoon combo from Human Gear called Duo GoBites.  They conveniently snap together and are long enough to reach down into those rehydrated camp meal bags without getting food all over your knuckles, which has been an issue for me to be completely honest.  I have some nifty camp utensils, but they were always too short.  I was very excited about this product and I cannot wait to put it to the test.  They also snap together snugly for easy and convenient storage.  Win win!

There was also a decal in the box.  I’m a sucker for decals.  I believe in promoting brands that I really like.  I think everyone gets a little happy when they see a colorful decal in their packages.  Fun!

My overall impression of this first box was a good one.  I am happy with the items I received, and believe that I will definitely use them.  I am currently planning our outdoor schedule for 2017, and am excited to see what future boxes bring.  Do you currently subscribe to this service?  What has your experience been?  Would you recommend it to others?

It sounds like you got perfectly matched with products you really needed! I don’t think I go outside enough to benefit from this subscription, but it sounds like a good excuse to go on more adventures.

    1. Shannon Adams January 8, 2017 at 10:26 am

There you go! It would be good even for someone who takes their dog on regular walks and trips to the park. Picnics, etc. It would motivate one to get out more, I think. 🙂
