Dogs have long been used to help people. From police dogs to military dogs to therapy and service dogs, they have been invaluable to us in many ways. In the medical arena, they are being utilized more and more to detect subtle changes in a person’s body that can lead up to seizures, and studies are now being conducted regarding how they can help detect cancer. I think most dog owners would agree that their lives are better for having their four-legged companions, but did you know that they can also help you to be healthier?
Studies have shown that people with dogs tend to have lower blood pressure and are less likely to have heart disease than their non-dog-owning counterparts. The simple act of petting a dog can greatly reduce stress levels and dog owners who walk, run, play fetch and do other activities with their dogs tend to be healthier all around. They help us to reach out and connect with others, as is seen in this video from Pedigree‘s latest Feed The Good campaign. I was lucky enough to view this at the recently-held BlogPaws conference, at which Mark Johnson, the President of Mars Petcare US spoke about the campaign.
