Yesterday we decided to hit part of the Cross Seminole Trail before the afternoon got too hot. Though the trail is 23 miles in length, we only did a very short 1 mile because of the afternoon’s impending heat as well as Chewy’s age. We made sure to carry plenty of water, take breaks and test the ground every so often. The sand here can get hot; so much so that sometimes the dogs need to wear boots. When we were out there it was not bad, though, and we made sure to test it regularly. It’s always a good idea to monitor your dog closely and take breaks as needed. Bring plenty of water, maybe even a cool coat for longer hikes. Don’t know what a cool coat is? Check out our review here.
This was officially Chewy’s first hike. We were only out for about 15-20 minutes since it was pretty warm out and he is young, but he did very well. My sister came and brought her two dogs, (Boo) Bear and Bianca. Chewy was excited to meet his cousins! It was their first time walking on a coupler, so it was a little wonky at first, but they learned quickly how to avoid being tangled in each other’s legs. It was a leisurely walk and good therapy for us.
After our walk we went to a nearby ice cream shop and were pleasantly surprised when we saw that they offer doggie ice cream!
What a great afternoon and a much-needed break from fiddling with the blog maintenance after our big move. I felt great after getting out and being active. No matter what kind of day I’m having, or how many excuses I might be able to come up with as to why I should skip walking, I always feel better afterward. I need to do more of it. Which brings me to the exciting news that we will soon be hitting the road. We’re heading for fresh mountain air, swimming holes, waterfalls, camping under the stars and enjoying a much-needed break from everyday life.
Stay tuned to hear how you can come along with us!
