Trio-Hop Thursday–I Do Believe I’ve Found It!

I’ve found our Christmas card photo for this year!

If you’ve been with us for a while you know Cairo and her antics well.  She is a one dog wrecking crew.  We don’t call her Hurricane Cairo for nothing.   That face?  That sweet, innocent face, you say?  Let’s just take a little walk down memory lane and chat about Little Miss Sweet & Innocent Face, shall we?

So far she has:

*Knocked down cattle fencing

*Learned she could jump OVER said cattle fencing after Mom thought she’d repaired it for the last time, causing Mom to have to explain to Dad why we were erecting a 6 foot wooden fence around our dog yard.

*Decided she cannot be contained and is nearly over brand new 6′ fence.  I’m now preparing to install roller bars.  ((cha-ching and cha-ching))

*Shredded the cat beds.  All of them.  I put them on the top shelf on the porch (well over 7 feet high) and Cairo used the grooming table to climb up and get them.

*She broke out of the screens on our porch so I had lattice put in.  ((cha-ching again))

*She shook the shelf unit (imagine a bear shaking a tree) until the turtle food fell down.  She has eaten 2 large containers of it so far.

*She ate my tool bag.  Yes you read that right.  My tool bag.  Thank goodness she didn’t eat any of the tools, but she did spread them far and wide.  ((insert curse words here))

*Shredded my grooming bag and destroyed my Oster clippers, nail clippers, scissors, everything in it.

*No matter how many times she has been corrected, she will still counter surf.

*She got trapped in my bedroom shortly after Halloween and ate an entire bag of candy and mushed it into my brand new rag rugs, jumped ONTO MY DESK and knocked everything everywhere.

*Chewed an easel to bits.

*Steals stuffed animals from the kids’ rooms.

*Digs craters in the dog yard on a daily basis.

*Ate my daughter’s bubble maker.

*Shredded countless blankets.

*Has shredded homework.

And that’s not the half of it.

She was imported as a show dog.  Long story short she had a joint issue that had to be corrected (to the tune of major cha-ching) and now she is just a pet.  Now don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with pet dogs.  I love pet dogs.  But when you import from another country for a specific purpose and then can no longer put to use the qualities that made you choose that dog, it’s devastating.  Financially, emotionally, the whole thing is just crappy.

I normally will place pet dogs as there is just no way to keep them all.  The next logical step would have been to place Cairo as well.  Trust me, I have placed dogs with far less destructive streaks than Cairo.  There comes a time when you decide which dogs are suitable for breeding and which ones need a life somewhere else, where they can be appreciated for the gifts that they are meant to give (Obedience dogs, hunting dogs, farm dogs, family pets), and you make it happen.

I couldn’t imagine Cairo moving on.  She is a destructive hellion on four paws, yes, but then there is this:

She is and always has been very gentle with the kids.  She is laid back, loves to snuggle and be cuddled and loves to ride in the van.  She walks wonderfully on lead.  So much so that the kids can handle her.  She is a superb watch dog.   She is a born guardian (as Corsos should be) and has a bark befitting a dog twice her size.

Patrolling the property with Siren.

Coffee fetching partner.

She is a fabulous hiking companion.  She is smaller than the other girls, and therefore a bit more agile.  She seems genuinely interested in where it is we’re going.   And absolutely no one is getting near camp.

Guarding the kids’ tent.

So when it came time to figure out who was gracing our holiday cards this year, we all agreed it had to be Cairo, tangled up in lights with a lump of coal.   After several unsuccessful attempts (I’ll have to post the outtakes) we ended up with the keeper:

That is THE ONE! Gosh, reading this I am now CERTAIN that I was a good boy this year! Holy cow!

P.S. – No one is going near that tent for sure! She looks like a cyborg guard dog with laser beam eyes in that photo!

That definitely is the card!! it’s so adorable. Cairo sounds like she and Delilah could create some havoc. 🙂 Thanks for joining the blog hop.

Thank you! Oh my goodness, they would plot all kinds of things!

Well that one is the money shot! Surely she’ too angelic to cause all that mischief. Well the nice thing with most dogs is they mellow as they mature (Toby sure has) but the good qualities just get better and better.

That is a cute picture. And here I am worrying about Freighter being in the outside kennel this week and chewing the dog house. I agree with Sand Spring. It sounds like her house with Gambler…I have been there…trust me….lol.

Thanks for joining the Barks and Bytes hop!

That photo is phenomenal and definitely Christmas-Card worthy!!! Sounds like you have your hands full with Miss Cairo ~ I was going to suggest backpack walking/jogging to get rid of her energy UNTIL I saw the picture of her sporting the backpack…never mind 😉

  12. DZ Dogs December 14, 2014 at 6:13 am

Oh my goodness that is hilarious!!! Love the photo of Cairo! She makes me thankful my Ziva so far just has fettishes for towels, rugs, and her dog bed..well there was that 1 pillow she ate….
I’m now on the hunt for a good puzzle toy and/or chew toy something to keep her silly little OCD brain occupied while i’m at work for a few hours. You’d think we never exercised them right?
Lovely card though! She makes for a perfect naught card. 🙂

    1. Rama's Mama December 20, 2014 at 8:52 pm

Thank you, I am just so upset that the company I ordered the cards from never delivered them. 🙁 Oh well, there’s always next year, I guess. Did you see the puzzle game I got for Rama for her birthday? That was a good one. I think there are some good ones online. I know someone did a post about the various different puzzle toys. I wish I could remember who it was…

OMG Love the card and the stories. I’ll have to take a pic of naughty Kilo with a bag of coal. His crimes are mainly theft and chewing and eating. Luckily he is tiny but boy can he climb and jump and counters are just too tempting of he can reach. Happy hols XS

    1. Rama's Mama December 20, 2014 at 8:50 pm

Hee hee, I can see Kilo thieving/chewing/eating away! 😀
