So we are a week away from our trip. We made a stop at our local outdoor store today to pick up a few last straggling items that we still needed. We were originally looking to camp the entire time, but because most ultralight tents (at least the ones we were interested in) are made to order (and pretty pricey), we just didn’t get it done in time. We will be staying at a cabin some nights, camping others. Since our standard tents are pretty heavy, our campout nights will be at campgrounds close to the trailheads. Over the next year we will be working harder toward completing our family ultralight setup, but since this will be the kids’ first hiking trip to the mountains, perhaps easing them into the whole experience will make them want to be outdoors more.
This will also be Chewy’s first camping/hiking trip. He is closing in on five months old now and can walk for longer stretches, but we will be choosing easier trails and I will have his heavier harness (which I have modified) with me in case I need to carry him at any point. I’m sure he will be fine, but we will be stocking the doggie first aid kit as well as the people first aid kit, and in the next few posts will be sharing all of that with you. Don’t forget that if you are not following us via our social media channels, please do so soon so that you can follow along with our trip as we will be posting live updates to Vine and Snapchat! The GoPro will be rolling as will the good times as we hit the road one week from today!
Have you been camping with your dog(s)? Tell us about it!
