Global Pet Expo 2016
This Wednesday will be two weeks since we visited the pet industry’s largest trade show in Orlando, Florida. Though we live here, it was the first time we didn’t have a schedule conflict and were able to go. If you follow us on social media, you may have noticed a flurry of tweets, vines and photos with #GlobalPetExpo. For three days, we were able to view the latest and best products that the pet industry has to offer. We spoke directly with the brands, learning everything from how ingredients for foods are sourced to exactly how long a particular toy can keep your pooch occupied. We’ve spent a lot of time over the past couple of weeks editing and organizing all the pictures and notes that we took, so we can share with you the awesomeness of what we saw! This post will be the first in a series about the event.
Rama attended Global Pet Expo 2016 the first day, Clara the second and Sassy the third. With Clara now on the payroll here at Walks With Rama, we explored many products made with small dogs in mind, specifically outdoor/travel items. We found some products that we would love to try out in the field, and some that we will be trying out very soon! There were several events for members of the media, and it was at a few of these events that we met up with blogging and pet industry friends both old and new!

Connecting With Brands
With the expo floor measuring approximately 15 football fields in length, we did a lot of walking. I made the mistake of wearing new shoes on the first day. Lesson learned. Tennis shoes were on my feet each day thereafter. The dogs did very well. Rama has been to this venue before for dog shows, and I think she thought that perhaps that was why she was there this time as well. She isn’t fond of dog shows and usually will spend the majority of her time trying to figure out how to get back to our vehicle. She did great, though, soaking up all the love and many, many pats on the head. She waited patiently as I chatted with brands about their products and was praised many times for her good behavior. We were interviewed by Wag And Tell for their Dogs Of Global series, and Rama was asked to pose for a photo at the APPA (American Pet Products Association) booth.
The dogs enjoyed lots of yummy things from the brands. A favorite of Sassy’s was Nutri Source, a family-owned company that makes holistic, organic, and grain-free pet foods.
Here are a few of the pet foods and products we saw on display at Global Pet Expo 2016:
The show set record numbers this year, with more than a million square feet of pet products and over 3200 booths!
New Pet Products For 2016
In our opinion, the highlight of the expo was the New Products Showcase. It was absolutely amazing to see not only new offerings from brands that I was familiar with, but ones I’d never even heard of. As a result, I pretty much snailed it through this area. I had to stop and read ingredients and examine packaging and samples. It was like being in a candy store. Our go-to products this year were dog foods, outdoor products and dog toys that could stand up to our dogs’ play habits.
Stay tuned as we present a series of some of the products we thought were most interesting from the expo. Next up–dog food and treats!
